The Rise of the Geo Game

The Rise of the Geo Game

Over the past couple of months, I've started a new daily tradition of playing GeoSports and competing on the score with some friends.

GeoSports is a daily trivia game with 5 questions on sports. You place a pin on the map for the correct answer and get rewarded the closer you are. The questions count more as the round goes on. It's a simple concept that works well. Dudes love maps. Throw in a sports or history spin and you've got a great product. Sharing scores with an easy copy/paste mechanism capitalizes on the social aspect like Wordle did a few years back.

After playing GeoSports and GeoHistory, I wanted to build something where I could make my own quizzes in the same manner. With a Claude Code subscription, getting an idea to a working proof of concept is trivial these days. So I threw this together. Introducing CustomGeo.

It's the same concept as other geo quiz games, but you can build your own and share with your friends. Scores get added to a leaderboard for that quiz. I've created an example quiz below with 5 random questions about me, give it a try and see how you score.

Alex's Quiz July 2026

I've had a couple friends try this out and it's been fun to see. Make one about your personal life like I did or you can do any obscure topic. Let me know if there are any features or enhancements you think are missing!

Here's some screenshots to showcase it:

Come up with five questions and place the spot on the map. Can also add an answer explanation if you'd like.

Answer the question by placing the pin on the map. The solving map purposefully doesn't show the city names like the creator map does for added difficulty.

Side note: some loyal AlexJCode heads will know this started as a vault project but then was too good to not showcase. The vault is where I'm storing some projects that are unlisted for one reason or another but I still want to share. If you get a vault link sent your way, you're a good friend. Thanks for supporting the site.
